3 Signs You Need To Have Your Septic Tank Pumped

Blog

Getting your septic tank pumped is just part of the routine maintenance that you need to have done. As your tank gets used, all the solids, sludge, and scum will start to build up and make it so that no new wastewater can get into the tank. But, pumping it out means that all of that stuff is going to get sucked out of the tank so that it can continue being used. It's important to know what the signs of needing to have your tank pumped are so that you get it pumped as soon as possible.

Slowed or Stalled Drains

One of the biggest signs that you need to have your septic tank pumped is that your drains are extremely slow to drain or they have completely stalled, with nothing going down the drain at all. You might notice this in the toilet before you see it anywhere else, just because the toilet gets used frequently and a lot of water is going down the drain all at once. The reason that the drains are slow or stalled is that there is just nowhere for the wastewater to go, so it sits in the pipes between your house and the septic tank. As the pipes fill up, there is just less and less space for anything to go down, so it stays where it is.

Smell

If you are smelling foul smells from your drains or around your yard where the septic tank is, it may be time to have your septic tank pumped. The foul smell comes from the waste that is filling up in the tank and is sitting in the pipes. It can also come from around the lid of the tank because the tank is just so full.

Puddles

If you notice that there are puddles in your yard around where your tank is, especially around the top of your tank, that can be a sign of several problems, including the fact that your tank needs to be pumped. The pressure on the inside of the full tank wants to be released somehow, and it can do that by going through the lid of your septic tank, leaving muddy spots or puddles around your tank.

If you notice any of these signs, then you need to make sure that you contract a septic tank repair service as soon as possible. Getting your tank pumped is usually relatively quick and much less expensive than replacing the tank would be.
